Fall is the perfect time to bring pumpkins, colorful leaves, and hands-on learning into your preschool or kindergarten activities! If you’re looking for a fun way to help little learners recognize and spell their names, this free pumpkin patch name craft is a wonderful addition to your fall lesson plans.
I created this printable fall name craft to combine creativity with important early literacy skills. Children get to build their very own pumpkin patch using a cute wooden fence, letter pumpkins, and a pumpkin patch sign. Each pumpkin features a letter, allowing kids to arrange them in the correct order to spell their names.
Whether you’re planning a pumpkin theme for your homeschool, putting together October classroom activities, or looking for an easy fall craft, this printable makes name practice a little more exciting!
A Fun Pumpkin Patch Name Craft for Preschool and Kindergarten

Learning to recognize and spell their own names is an important milestone for young children. It’s often one of the first meaningful connections they make between letters and written words.
While traditional name tracing worksheets are helpful, I believe hands-on activities give children another way to explore letters while developing other important skills.
That’s why I love the idea of combining name recognition with a seasonal craft!
With this pumpkin patch name craft, children can:
- Recognize the letters in their names.
- Practice arranging letters in the correct order.
- Identify uppercase alphabet letters.
- Strengthen fine motor skills through coloring, cutting, and gluing.
- Practice following simple step-by-step directions.
- Build confidence as they complete their own personalized craft.
And the best part? Every child gets to create something unique featuring their own name!
This activity works especially well for preschool, pre-K, kindergarten, and younger learners who are beginning to explore letters and name spelling.
What’s Included in the Free Pumpkin Patch Name Craft Printable?
I’ve included everything you need to create an adorable pumpkin patch without having to draw or prepare your own templates.
The printable includes both colored and black-and-white versions, making it easy to choose what works best for your children or students.
Printable Pumpkin Patch Fence

The fence is the background for the craft. Children assemble the fence sections to create their own little pumpkin patch.
The printable includes multiple fence sections, so you can adjust the length to accommodate different names.
There’s also a cute Pumpkin Patch sign to complete the design!
Pumpkin Alphabet Letters A–Z

The printable includes pumpkins featuring uppercase letters from A to Z.
Children choose the pumpkins needed to spell their names and arrange them along the bottom of their fences.
I’ve also included extra pumpkins with punctuation marks and blank pumpkins, giving you a little more flexibility when creating your craft.
If a name contains repeated letters, you can simply print additional copies of the alphabet page.
Color and Black-and-White Craft Templates
I wanted to make this activity flexible for different classroom and homeschool needs, so I’ve included two versions.
Color version: Perfect for a quicker, low-prep fall name activity. Simply print, cut, and assemble.
Black-and-white version: Great for children who enjoy coloring and personalizing their crafts. Kids can color the pumpkins, fence, and sign before cutting everything out.
Both versions create the same adorable pumpkin patch!
Supplies Needed for Your Pumpkin Patch Name Craft
One of my favorite things about printable crafts is that you usually only need a few basic supplies you already have at home or in your classroom.
For this fall name craft, you’ll need:
- Free Pumpkin Patch Name Craft printable
- White cardstock or sturdy printer paper
- Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
- Child-safe scissors
- Glue stick or school glue
- Construction paper (optional, for mounting the finished craft)
I recommend cardstock when possible because it gives the fence and pumpkins a little more stability, especially when children are cutting and assembling the pieces.

How to Make Your Pumpkin Patch Name Craft
This printable pumpkin name craft is easy to assemble and requires very little preparation.
Step 1: Print Your Pumpkin Patch Craft Templates
Start by downloading and printing the pumpkin patch name craft.
Choose either the colored or black-and-white version.
If you’re using the black-and-white templates, have children color their pumpkins, fences, and pumpkin patch sign before cutting.
You can also encourage them to use different shades of orange, yellow, brown, and green to create a colorful fall pumpkin patch.
Step 2: Cut Out and Assemble the Fence
Carefully cut out the fence sections.
Arrange the pieces side by side to create a fence long enough for the child’s name.
Glue the sections together to make one long pumpkin patch fence.
For younger children, you may want to help with cutting or have the fence pieces prepared ahead of time.
Step 3: Find the Letters in Your Name
Next, help children find the pumpkins featuring the letters in their names.
For example, a child named EMMA would need four pumpkins: E, M, M, and A.
Have children lay the pumpkins on the table and arrange them in the correct order before gluing.
This is a wonderful opportunity to talk about the first letter of their name, identify repeated letters, and practice recognizing each letter.
Step 4: Glue the Letter Pumpkins to the Fence
Once the letters are in the correct order, glue the pumpkins along the bottom of the fence, just above the grass.
Encourage children to work from left to right as they spell their names.
They can point to each pumpkin and say the letter aloud as they go.
Step 5: Add the Pumpkin Patch Sign

Finish your craft by attaching the Pumpkin Patch sign to the fence.
You can also glue the completed pumpkin patch onto a larger piece of construction paper to create a sturdy fall display.
Now your pumpkin patch name craft is ready to show off!
Learning Benefits of This Fall Name Craft
Although this activity looks like a simple fall craft, it offers several meaningful learning opportunities for young children.
Name Recognition and Letter Identification
Recognizing their own names is an important early literacy skill.
Children begin to notice that their names contain specific letters arranged in a particular order.
With this pumpkin name activity, they can physically move the letter pumpkins around until they’ve spelled their names correctly.
For children who are just beginning, I recommend writing their names on a separate piece of paper so they have a visual reference.
As they become more confident, encourage them to complete the activity with less assistance.
Letter Sequencing and Early Spelling
Children aren’t just identifying individual letters. They’re also learning that the order of letters matters.
When they arrange their pumpkin letters from left to right, they’re practicing the sequence needed to spell their names.
You can extend the activity by mixing up the pumpkins and asking children to put them back in order before gluing.
Fine Motor Skills
Cutting, coloring, positioning, and gluing are all opportunities to strengthen fine motor skills.
These small hand movements help children develop the coordination they’ll use for handwriting and other everyday tasks.
If cutting the smaller pumpkin pieces is challenging, you can prepare them ahead of time and allow children to focus on arranging and gluing.
Following Directions and Building Independence
This fall craft also gives children practice following a sequence of directions.
They color, cut, arrange, glue, and complete their projects one step at a time.
I think it’s especially rewarding when children can look at a finished craft and recognize that they created something all their own.
Creative Ways to Use Your Pumpkin Patch Name Craft
There are so many ways to incorporate this printable into your fall activities!
Fall Classroom Bulletin Board
Turn your students’ finished crafts into a colorful pumpkin patch bulletin board.
You could add a heading such as:
“Look Who’s Growing in Our Pumpkin Patch!”
Arrange the completed name crafts across the board to create a personalized fall classroom display.
This is also a fun way to celebrate each child’s name while decorating for the season.
Preschool and Kindergarten Literacy Centers
Use the pumpkin letter pieces as a hands-on name-building activity before children assemble their crafts.
Instead of gluing right away, have children practice putting their pumpkins in order.
You can also encourage them to identify the first and last letters in their names.
For repeated center use, laminate the pieces and let children arrange them on a table or mat.
Fall Homeschool Activities
If you’re planning a pumpkin-themed homeschool week, this craft fits right in!
Pair it with pumpkin books, counting activities, pumpkin coloring pages, and other fall-themed worksheets.
It’s a simple way to combine literacy and creativity without needing an elaborate lesson plan.
October Morning Work or Early Finishers
The colored version is especially useful when you need a quick activity with minimal preparation.
Have the appropriate letter pumpkins and fence sections ready for each child, and let them work on assembling their own pumpkin patches.
Children who finish early can practice identifying the letters in a classmate’s name or create another pumpkin patch using a favorite fall word.
More Ways to Practice Names With Pumpkin Letters
Want to get a little more learning out of your printable? Here are a few additional activities you can try before assembling the craft.
Pumpkin Letter Hunt: Spread the letter pumpkins across the table and ask children to find the letters in their names.
First Letter Match: Write each child’s name on a card and have them find the pumpkin featuring their first initial.
Count the Pumpkins: Ask children to count how many letters are in their names. They can compare names to see which have more or fewer letters.
Pumpkin Name Puzzle: Arrange the letter pumpkins in the correct order, mix them up, and have children rebuild their names.
Build Fall Words: Use the alphabet pumpkins to spell simple seasonal words such as FALL, LEAF, PIE, and PUMPKIN.
These simple extensions make the printable useful for more than just one craft session!
