How to Use a Daily Planner to Achieve your Goals

The daily planner is one of the most underrated and often neglected productivity tools. It’s for this reason that many people struggle to get their lives organized and remain on top of all their commitments. A lack of organization can lead to missed deadlines, lost opportunities, and even stress that can lead to physical health problems if not addressed in time. But it doesn’t have to be this way! With a little bit of creativity, you can find ways to make your day-to-day life much easier with a daily planner. To help you out, here are five creative ways that might work for you:

1. Prioritize

One of the best ways to fix a cluttered schedule is to start prioritizing. Take a look at your daily planner and mark down all of your most important tasks for the day, as well as any personal projects that you’re currently working on. Now take another look at each of these tasks and ask yourself whether or not they’re absolutely necessary. When you come to something that isn’t urgent or all that important, cross it out and replace it with something else.

Tip: Use a to-do list with a priority section( or make one) to write down all your tasks for the day. Then rate each task by priority (1-3 stars, 3 being a top priority). Then you can decide which task to add to your daily planner to complete for the day and in what order.

2. Assign deadlines

If there is one thing that most people don’t like in their planners, it’s scheduled events. They claim that life is unpredictable and they can never accurately predict when events are going to take place. However, in the event that things happen that they didn’t prepare for, they’re out of luck.

To get past this issue, why not try adding deadlines into your daily planner? It’s a simple step that will help you define when tasks need to be completed. You can even use different colors to mark the different time limits throughout the planner.

3. Prioritize your goals

Rather than taking on tasks that are not urgent or less important, why not take a step back and start assigning goals to specific days? This will help you organize your prioritized list of tasks by how long it’ll take for you to complete them.

If a task is going to take a full day, put it on the same page every day until it’s done. This way you have an exact plan of action and can see exactly how much time you will need in order to get things done.

4. Use a future log

Just write down all of your tasks in a certain order and draw a line to the current date. Then go back and write out when you want each task to take place. You can even assign specific dates to each task so you know exactly when it’ll be completed.

5. Map out your week

If you find that weekly plans work better for you, then why not try mapping out your schedule on a weekly basis? You can do this using a blank calendar or by using the graph in the back of a daily planner.

Just write down your most important tasks for each day of the week, and you’ll always know what to expect later in the week.

Want to remember this? Pin it to save it for later.

Using a daily planner is a great way to help you organize your goals thus making it easier to complete and prioritize tasks. This will save you a lot of stress and headaches. I hope you will find these tips useful while using a daily planner.

  1. Thanks for the tips. I have a journal that I do not use to its potential, despite my best intentions. I end up having sticky notes everywhere and notes on paper that pile up.

    • I used to use scrap paper and have it all over the place myself until I discovered how useful journaling and planners were to my productivity. I do still believe sticky notes are very useful but to keep me from causing too much clutter, I like to keep my notes in my planner hehe. Thanks for the comment!
