This colorful story gives you an easy way to emphasize the F in “fish.” You can follow the story with a fish coloring page or simple fish craft.

Firefly is another wonderful F word, and this book can lead into conversations about insects, light, and nighttime.
Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss
There are plenty of fun sounds and words to explore in this silly read-aloud, including the Letter F word “fox.”
Flower Garden by Eve Bunting
Since one of the printable worksheets features a flower, a flower-themed picture book makes a natural extension to the activity.
You can choose one book for a read-aloud and then complete the matching Letter F activity afterward.
Easy Paper Plate Fish Craft for Letter F
After working on the worksheets, a paper plate fish craft is a fun way to continue practicing the Letter F.
Supplies
You’ll need:
- Paper plate
- Washable paint
- Paintbrush
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Crayons or markers
- Googly eye or a paper eye
How to Make a Paper Plate Fish
Start with a regular paper plate and have children paint or color it.
Once it is dry, cut a small triangle from one side of the plate to create the fish’s mouth. Instead of throwing that triangle away, glue it to the opposite side of the plate to make the tail.
Add a paper or googly eye and decorate the fish with colorful scales, spots, stripes, or other patterns.
While children work, talk about the word fish and emphasize the beginning /f/ sound.
You can even write “F is for Fish” underneath the finished craft and display it with the Letter F worksheets.
