I created this Turkey Trouble craft to give homeschool families and teachers a simple, hands-on activity that brings the story to life. Children can dress Turkey in his red delivery shirt and matching hat, then add his pizza delivery box to complete his disguise.
The best part? I’ve included both color and black-and-white templates, so you can choose the version that works best for your children or students.

A Fun Turkey Trouble Craft Inspired by the Story

If you haven’t read Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano, it’s a wonderful Thanksgiving read-aloud filled with humor and creative problem-solving.
Turkey has a big problem. Thanksgiving is approaching, and he doesn’t want to become the main course!
Throughout the story, Turkey tries several disguises to avoid being recognized by Farmer Jake. But none of his disguises work quite as planned.
Eventually, Turkey comes up with a clever solution involving pizza, which inspired this printable craft.
I love how this story encourages children to think creatively, solve problems, and keep trying even when their first ideas don’t work.
After reading the book, children can recreate Turkey’s final disguise with this adorable pizza delivery craft.
What’s Included in the Free Turkey Trouble Craft Template?

I wanted this craft to be simple enough for younger children while still being enjoyable for older students.
The free printable includes all the pieces needed to create Turkey’s pizza delivery disguise.
Your printable craft includes:
- Turkey’s body with his adorable wide-eyed expression
- A pizza delivery shirt with a pizza logo
- A matching pizza delivery hat
- Two wings to attach to his pizza box
- A pizza delivery box to complete his disguise
- A full-color template for quick assembly
- A black-and-white template children can color themselves
The color version is perfect when you want a quick, low-prep activity. The black-and-white version gives children the opportunity to personalize their turkeys with crayons, colored pencils, or markers.
Both versions make a cute finished Thanksgiving craft that can be displayed on a bulletin board, classroom wall, or refrigerator.
Supplies Needed for Your Turkey Trouble Craft

One of my favorite things about printable crafts is that you don’t need a long list of supplies to get started.
For this Turkey Trouble craft, you’ll only need a few basic materials that you probably already have at home or in your classroom.
- Free Turkey Trouble printable craft template
- White printer paper or cardstock
- Child-safe scissors
- Glue stick
- Crayons, markers, or colored pencils (for the black-and-white version)
I recommend using cardstock if you want a sturdier craft, especially if you’re planning to hang the finished turkeys on a classroom bulletin board.

How to Make Your Pizza Delivery Turkey Trouble Craft
This cut-and-paste Thanksgiving craft is easy to prepare and doesn’t require any complicated steps.
Step 1: Print Your Turkey Trouble Craft Template
Start by downloading the free printable near the end of this post.
Choose between the full-color version and the black-and-white version.
If you’re working with younger children, I recommend the color version because it allows them to focus on cutting, gluing, and assembling their turkey.
For children who enjoy coloring, the black-and-white version is a great choice.
Step 2: Color Your Turkey (Optional)
If you selected the black-and-white template, have children color all the pieces before cutting them out.
They can color Turkey brown, his beak and feet yellow, and his pizza delivery uniform red, or create their own colorful version.
Encourage children to take their time and add their own creative touches.
Step 3: Cut Out the Craft Pieces
Carefully cut around Turkey’s body, delivery shirt, pizza hat, wings, and pizza box.
Younger children may need help cutting around the smaller details.
This is also a wonderful opportunity to practice scissor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Step 4: Dress Turkey in His Pizza Delivery Uniform
Glue the red delivery shirt onto Turkey’s body, positioning it beneath his head.
Next, attach his pizza delivery hat to the top of his head.
Now Turkey is beginning to look like a real pizza delivery worker!
Step 5: Add the Pizza Delivery Box and Wings

Position the pizza delivery box in front of Turkey’s lower body.
Attach his wings on either side of the box so it looks as though he’s holding it.
Once everything is glued into place, allow the craft to dry.
Your pizza delivery Turkey is ready for Thanksgiving!
Why This Turkey Trouble Craft Is Great for Learning
Although this craft is adorable on its own, I also believe it’s a great way to reinforce several important early learning skills.
Fine Motor Skills and Hand-Eye Coordination
Cutting, coloring, and gluing are all wonderful activities for strengthening the small muscles in children’s hands.
As children cut around Turkey’s body and assemble his disguise, they’re practicing coordination and control.
These are important skills that help prepare young learners for writing and other everyday tasks.
Reading Comprehension and Story Recall
Because this craft is inspired by the ending of Turkey Trouble, it’s a natural opportunity to talk about what happened in the story.
After reading, ask children why Turkey needed a disguise and how his pizza delivery idea helped solve his problem.
You can also encourage them to retell the story in their own words while assembling their craft.
Creativity and Problem-Solving
One of the things I especially like about Turkey Trouble is that Turkey doesn’t give up when his disguises fail.
This creates a wonderful opportunity to talk about perseverance and creative thinking.
Children can discuss why some of Turkey’s ideas didn’t work and what made his final plan different.
Following Directions and Sequencing
Completing a craft also helps children practice following directions in the correct order.
They need to color, cut, position, and glue the pieces to create their finished turkey.
For younger learners, you can simplify the activity by preparing some of the pieces ahead of time.
Fun Ways to Extend Your Turkey Trouble Craft Activity
If you’re planning a Thanksgiving lesson around Turkey Trouble, there are several easy ways to turn this printable into a more complete learning experience.
1. Retell the Story Using Your Turkey Craft
After children finish assembling their turkeys, invite them to use their crafts to retell the story.
Ask them to explain what Turkey’s problem was, which disguises he tried, and how he eventually solved his problem.
You can even have children take turns presenting their turkeys to the class.
2. Create a Turkey Trouble Writing Prompt
Pair the craft with a simple writing activity.
Younger children can complete the sentence:
“My turkey is disguised as a __________.”
Older students can answer:
“Why did Turkey’s pizza delivery disguise work?”
Encourage them to use details from the story to support their answers.
You can display their writing alongside their finished crafts for a cute Thanksgiving bulletin board.
3. Design a New Disguise for Turkey
Once children have made Turkey’s pizza delivery outfit, challenge them to think of another disguise that might work.
Would Turkey make a convincing firefighter? A chef? A scarecrow?
Have children draw their ideas and explain why their disguise would help Turkey avoid becoming Thanksgiving dinner.
This activity encourages creativity, imagination, and problem-solving.
4. Make a Turkey Trouble Bulletin Board
Turn your finished crafts into a fun classroom Thanksgiving display.
Arrange the pizza delivery turkeys on a bulletin board with a heading such as:
“Special Delivery! Turkey Saved Thanksgiving!”
You could also include each child’s name or a short sentence explaining Turkey’s clever plan.
This would make an adorable display for preschool, kindergarten, or first-grade classrooms.
