Not only will it spark curiosity, but it’s also a great way to get them off their screens and encourage quality bonding time. Plus, we’re offering free printable Nature Bingo cards to make it even easier for you to get started.

What is Nature Bingo?

Nature Bingo is an interactive game where players search for items in nature to match those on their bingo cards. Each card is filled with images of natural elements, such as leaves, flowers, insects, or birds. The goal? To spot and mark these items during a nature walk or while playing in your own backyard.

Think of it as your child’s mini scavenger hunt, but with the excitement of yelling “Bingo!” as they complete a line or the whole card.

Supplies Needed for Nature Bingo

To get started with Nature Bingo, here are the essential supplies you’ll need:

  • White paper or cardstock for printing the bingo cards and calling cards.
  • Bingo markers such as buttons, beads, small stones, seeds, or anything else you have at home. Do-a-dot markers also work great, especially if you laminate these cards.
  • Optional: Laminating sheets (self-adhesive sheets) for durability if you wish to reuse the cards multiple times.

Setting up a game of Nature Bingo is quick and simple:

  1. Print the bingo cards and the calling card sheet on white paper or cardstock.
  2. Cut out the calling cards and place them in a bowl or jar for easy selection.
  3. Distribute one bingo card to each participant. (If you have more than 10 players, group them into teams.)
  4. During the game, draw a calling card and either describe it or show the image to players.
  5. Players will place markers on their cards for every item they find or every image that is called out.
  6. Decide whether you’re playing for a full row (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) or a full card. The first to complete the challenge calls out “Bingo!”

Bingo Marker Options

Get creative with your bingo markers to make the game even more fun:

  • Natural options: seeds, acorns, small stones, or pinecones (great for outdoor play).
  • Household items: buttons, beads, or tokens.
  • Writing tools: Use pencils, dot markers, or dry erase markers (if the cards are laminated) for marking directly on the cards.

Why You Should Laminate the Bingo Cards

Laminating the bingo cards has two major benefits:

  1. Durability: Protects the cards from wear and tear, especially if you’re playing outside.
  2. Reusability: Allows you to use dry erase markers as bingo markers, making the cards easy to clean and reuse for future games.

Playing the Game

Once your Nature Bingo game is set up, get ready for hours of fun. You can:

  • Take the game outdoors: perfect for nature walks, parks, or even camping trips.
  • Turn it into a classroom activity: Teachers can use these nature bingo cards for a nature lesson or to teach environmental awareness.
  • Play at home: Spot items in your backyard or neighborhood.

To make it competitive, encourage players to spot items quickly or add small prizes for the winners!

Why Nature Bingo Benefits Kids

Nature Bingo isn’t just a game; it’s an opportunity for kids to:

  • Explore the outdoors: Foster a love for nature and curiosity about the environment.
